About the test

Steno Typist cum Computer Operator (সাঁটমুদ্রাক্ষরিক কাম কম্পিউটার অপারেটর) posts in Bangladesh government offices combine shorthand with computer typing. Candidates take a shorthand test at the speed set in the circular, and a computer typing test that commonly asks for 25 words per minute in Bangla and 30 in English. Some tests also ask candidates to type out their own shorthand notes, so typing speed and accuracy matter twice.

This page's mock test covers the Bangla typing part with a 5-minute timer. An English steno typing mock at 30 WPM is also available. Both are scored like an exam, with whole-word mistakes and a word-by-word review. The shorthand part is not covered here.

A higher bar than the typist post

The typing speeds are a step up from the 20 WPM asked of Office Assistant cum Computer Typist candidates. If you are preparing for both kinds of post, train for the steno speeds: they cover the typist test too.

Bijoy or Unicode?

As with other Bangladesh typing tests, many offices use Bijoy with SutonnyMJ fonts and others use Unicode layouts. Find out which one your office uses and practise on that. This site has the Jatiya layout built in; for Bijoy or Avro, choose “My keyboard” and type with your own software. See Bangla typing keyboards compared.

How to prepare

  1. Reach 30 WPM in Bangla and 35 in English on short tests, about 20% above the requirement.
  2. Practise full 5-minute passages in both languages with Backspace on and off.
  3. Keep shorthand and typing practice on the same days, so switching between them feels normal.

A worked example

To reach 25 WPM in 5 minutes you need about 625 key depressions of correct work. Say you type 690 key depressions and make 3 mistakes:

That passes. With 9 mistakes instead, the same typing would give 25.8 WPM, still a pass but with almost no margin. Accuracy moves your result as much as speed does. Work out your own numbers with the KDPH calculator.

How the mock test is scored

Your typed words are matched to the passage in order, so one missed word does not make the rest wrong. Each wrong, missing or extra word is one mistake. Gross speed counts key depressions you typed (five per word); net speed takes off one word per mistake. You get a word-by-word review of every mistake.

Three mock tests a day are free. Exam rules change between notices: always check the official notice for your post. See typing speed for government jobs for the requirements we track and their sources.

Questions

Is this the official exam software?

No. It is independent practice that follows the published rules as closely as we can. Interfaces and details differ between exam centres.

Can I turn off Backspace?

Yes. Some tests have restricted corrections, so you can practise with Backspace turned off.

What is a key depression?

One key press. Exams count speed in key depressions per hour: words per minute times 5 times 60.
